The Art of Loving What You Do

A lot of fairytale-type suggestions are going around on the internet these days that are too good to be true.

They say — choose your passion, turn it into your work, and then live happily ever after.

We all have gone through this thought at some point or the other if we should ‘LOVE WHAT WE DO’ or ‘DO WHAT WE LOVE’. Well, I’m pretty sure some of you must be still thinking about the same while reading this blog!

But to what extent is it practically true or possible?

As we grow older, certain circumstances and responsibilities restrain us from doing what we love, as sometimes we need to put others first before ourselves. And that is when we find ourselves doing something we never expected to do as a job.

However, the job you are doing now doesn’t have to be monotonous. It is your present, your reality, your life, and you need to make the most of it.

In this blog, we are going to talk about ways to love what you do. These are not some magical tips but some insights from a practical perspective of things!

How to Love What You Do?

Loving what you do leaves room for a lot of self-growth, development and maturity. You get to understand the broader spectrum of things and after a while, you see that you have become a better person — wiser, more compassionate, more understanding and more realistic!

“Making a living with your job is fine, but you also need to make a life out of it.”

Technically, you spend more time at your workplace than you do at home. So, whatever you do should certainly bring happiness and joy to your life, rather than draining your energy and causing unnecessary stress.

If you are really passionate about doing something and if you do it well, money would automatically flow in.

Although, there is no harm in opting for the other option too- which is starting to love what you have, if you cannot do what you really wanted to!

Here are a few tips that could help you stay enthusiastic at work-

- Find passion in your job!

The best way to enjoy your job is to find passion in it. Try to find a factor at your job that drives you. You might be doing a boring job that you just want to complete your work hours and go home.

You can put limits on yourself that ‘_ I will finish this task within 2 hours only, and then I’ll get a coffee and hang around a little to freshen up ‘_. If you are working from home, then it’s even better.

You can always find ways to chill at home during the break after meeting this deadline.

Remind yourself each day — “WHATEVER I DO, I WILL DO IT IN THE BEST WAY”! Eventually you will start noticing that you are driving yourself to do better and with equal excitement and enthusiasm each day.

Gradually you will start being appreciated and recognized for all that you do and a little appreciation from anyone at workplace is all that we need at times, to get going and do better. Isn’t it?

- What would you rather have- MONEY or PASSION?

A 9 to 5 job that pays you off handsomely, or a mystical journey to follow your passion that may or may not be able to pay your bills?

Sometimes what you wish to pursue might not bring in a lot of money, but if you can live that and keep up the hope that sooner or later you will be very successful in what you are doing, then WAY TO GO.

But as many people say, leaving a stable and comfortable life without having a full-proof backup plan in place is not a wise choice. In the end, it all depends on what you want to choose for yourself and for your life. Sometimes taking that risk is what people are afraid of, but what’s success without going through some hurdles in life.

- Be grateful for what you have!

As long as you have work, a stable salary, and you get to pay all your bills smoothly, you don’t stop for a second to think how blessed you actually are.

You might have heard, ‘ ONE ALWAYS WANTS WHAT THEY CANNOT HAVE ‘. How true, right?

If you have never felt a bit of jealously seeing people do what you would have loved to do, you are lying either to yourself or to the people around.

But what you have is your story, your journey, and you should never compare it with that of others. You had your share of struggles and hard choices, and what you have now is your accomplishment.

Have gratitude for wherever you are, for whatever you do, and for all the rewards or recognitions that you may be receiving while living this journey.

- Your work matters!

There might be days when you wouldn’t even feel like getting up and going to work. You may feel worthless sometimes, as if you are not doing anything meaningful in life.

Right in the middle of these thoughts, when you end up questioning yourself, try to take a moment and see that all you have done has definitely left an impact on someone out there.

What you do, not only impacts your personal or professional life, rather, it also leaves an impact on those around you.

Now, you may be wondering as to what it has to do with others? How does it impact others? If others are benefitting from what you do, per se, even if a single person gets inspired from your work, then it is all worth it. All that frustration, hard work, anxiety and boredom pays off!

This is why it is said — No matter how big or small your task is, do it with utmost perfection.

- Be realistic!

Work and entertainment are two entirely different things. It is absolutely amazing if you are making a living by following your passion, but it may not always work that way.

It may be possible that what you think you would love to do become boring after a time, and you start berating it as well.

Work requires effort and exertion. The feeling of accomplishment after working hard for days or weeks to get the job done is irreplaceable and once you get the taste of it, you would be striving to taste it again! That is when you get a strong feeling that you have started loving what you do.

Being recognized doing what you love is an exclusive achievement, of course! Though, you should always be realistic about what you want to do, what you want to achieve out of it, what you want to be like in the coming years.

Setting up realistic goals for you is extremely important.

Wrap Up

While most people are doing all sorts of jobs just to feed their family, they do not stop thinking about doing what they love as they just want to earn money to peacefully spend their lives. This is an absolute loop and coming out of it, is quite impossible to be honest.

Although, it is amazing to see how the newer generation is prioritizing living their dreams or passions over MONEY factor, even if it means breaking prejudiced opinions of society.

If you are one of those amazing people who want to follow their passion, no matter what, then, what are you waiting for? Just go for it.

The whole idea behind this blog was for those people who can’t do what they love and spend their lives sulking at their current job. As life is unpredictably short, you should not waste it sulking or grumbling and rather live and enjoy every moment of it however it turns out to be.

In the end, whatever you decide you do, just love that, be passionate about it, and it will bring in a lot of happiness and peace into your lives.
